Contact the Faculty Services Librarian
The Faculty Services Librarian is the primary contact for all faculty reference and research requests. This position is currently vacant. In his absense, contact Charles Finger at cfinger@stmarytx.edu or (210) 436-3589 with your research needs. Requests may range from preparation of preliminary research and subject-specific bibliographies, to sourcing statistical data, historic or archived works, and preparation of research memoranda and citation assistance.
Classroom Resources
In-class Presentation & Legal Research Lectures
Librarians will create customized classroom presentations at the request of the faculty for any course at the School of Law. Presentations may focus on resources for selecting and researching a paper topic, advanced legal research techniques in specialized areas of law, and other subjects as requested. To request a classroom presentation for your class, please contact Brian Detweiler at bdetweiler@stmarytx.edu.
Librarians are also always available and willing to assist students one-on-one with class assignments through our reference appointments. We encourage you to send students to us for research assistance!
Subject-Specific Research Guides & Bibliographies
Faculty members may also request customized research guides and bibliographies on specific legal topics to guide student research. A law librarian can compile a list of resources, create links directly to articles and database, and load that guide into TWEN for you.

Course Reserves
The Law Library makes available copies of course texts for all law school courses for 4 hour checkout to students. We encourage you to check that your course materials are up-to-date, by checking here: Course Reserves. If something is missing or out of date, or if you wish to make any other material available to students (ie. faculty-owned texts, photocopied cases, articles, etc.), please contact Brandon Vasquez at bvasquez@stmarytx.edu, or ext. 3435 . The Law Library assumes that photocopied materials meet federal copyright law guidelines.
Exam Bank
The Law Library keeps an exam bank for students. Exams are donated by professors. Exams can be posted for open download, posted so that a login is required, or made available only at the law library desk.
If you have any old exams, which you are willing to share, please let the Law Library know.
Electronic Course Management: TWEN and Blackboard
If you need a TWEN or Blackboard sites setup for your class, the librarians are happy to help with your course management. Please contact Brian Detweiler at bdetweiler@stmarytx.edu.
CALI: Online quizzes and practice exercises for students
CALI, the Computer Aided Learning Institute, is an online study platform for legal materials. It contains instruction modules, recorded lectures and quizzes. CALI is a good resource for exam study and extra practice outside of class. CALI can be a great way for students to review for exams, and you can integrate CALI lessons into TWEN. So, show this to students. (A student registration code and instructions, which you can share with a class, are posted here. New Acquisitions List: New books at the law library
Every month the law library makes a list of all new library books and materials which have come in during the month. This list is sent to all faculty members via email, and is available on the library s website at the new acquisitions page. We can deliver anything on this list to your office.
Serials Routing: Have law reviews and journals delivered to you, hot off the presses
Law faculty members may request that the Library route its copies of current issues of periodicals to their office for review. If you are interested in this service, please send the list of titles you would like routed to you to Stacy Fowler at sfowler@stmarytx.edu.
SmartCILP: Track New law review articles
SmartCILP is a service that delivers tables of contents to recently published law reviews and journals. The email comes out once a week, and will include only the journals you select. You can select by topic or by journal name. To subscribe: complete this enrollment form and return it to Brian Detweiler.
Library Resources
The Law Library owns and/or has electronic access to a wide array of electronic databases. These include CCH Intelliconnect, Congressional Universe, U.S. Supreme Court Records and Briefs, numerous HeinOnline libraries, Lexis Congressional Universe, and the United Nations Treaty Collection. Please visit our databases page for a more complete list, or view our Faculty Guide to Databases. Additionally, you may search for the electronic availability of any publication by using the Library s E-Journal Locator.
We are happy to provide individualized training to faculty members on any of our electronic databases, whether from a brief intro, to a more specialized orientation for specialized research. Please contact the law library if you are interested in a training session.

ExpressO Law Review Submission: Accounts for Faculty:
ExpressO is online at http://law.bepress.com/expresso/ This is the on-line submission website used by most law reviews (for some it is the exclusive method). St. Mary’s School of Law has an account with Expresso. Unlimited submissions may be made at no additional charge to staff and faculty.
Instructions for the first time you use ExpressO only: To register with ExpressO, under the St. Marys account:
- Go to http://law.bepress.com/expresso
- Click “My Account” in the top right corner.
- Click the link to “Create a New Account”. Register using your St. Mary’s email address ( ends with stmarytx.edu ). For “Institutional Affiliation”, enter “St. Mary’s University”. The system may not locate and automatically fill this field, because the St. Mary’s account was only created in October 2012.
- Log in to your St. Mary’s email, and click the link in the confirmation email.
Instructions for how to submit a paper under the St. Mary’s account:
- Go to http://law.bepress.com/expresso
- Click “My Account” in the top right corner.
- Log in using your St. Mary’s email address and the password you created for this account.
- Go tohttp://law.bepress.com/expresso/
- In the top right corner, click “Start Your Submission”

Scholastica Law Review Submission:
Scholastica is online at https://scholasticahq.com/law_reviews Scholastica is a new online submission website. Some schools have started moving to this over ExpressO, partly because higher fees thin the submissions. Scholastica charges $5 per submission made through Scholastica (the law library does not cover this fee).
